Gavin and Danielle attend a Polarized Neutrons Workshop

Danielle and Gavin attended a polarized neutron spectroscopy workshop hosted by Oak Ridge National Laboratory. They learned the basics of polarized neutrons from Roger Pynn (University of Indiana), and then learned about the different methods of polarized neutron diffraction and analysis from the instrument scientists on the various beamlines at SNS and HFIR. In the pictures shown, they’re learning on beamline HB-1 how to use “the indispensable tool” which allows instrument scientists to visually see what field direction the neutron will see.
